EDI 868: Electronic Form Structure
EDI 868 is the X12 Electronic Form Structure transaction set, used within Electronic Data Interchange (EDI). The transaction set can be used to provide a structure for transfer of EDI standards, or portions thereof, in an electronic form. These EDI standards include but are not limited to: ANSI X12 standards, approved ASC X12 Transaction Sets, UN/EDIFACT standard messages, and industry EDI conventions and guidelines.

Electronic Form Structure This X12 Transaction Set contains the format and establishes the data contents of the Electronic Form Structure Transaction Set (868) for use within the context of an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) environment. The transaction set can be used to provide a structure for transfer of EDI standards, or portions thereof, in an electronic form. These EDI standards include but are not limited to: ANSI X12 standards, approved ASC X12 Transaction Sets, UN/EDIFACT standard messages, and industry EDI conventions and guidelines. It is intended to provide users with the following: The ability to send and receive EDI standards data which can be used to update application or translation software. The ability to exchange data maintenance information with trading partners about transaction sets, segments, composite data structures, elements and codes that will be used for EDI transmissions. The ability to transmit complete or partial EDI standards or conventions.
